Friendly Divorce in Colorado, Through Mediation
You can resolve your property division, parenting plan (custody, visitation), debts, child support, and maintenance (alimony) in an amicable way in mediation. I work with both of you, as a neutral, to help you reach agreement. It's always important to plan for the tax effects of your agreement as well, and I can help with that too.
Whether you marriage is long or short, whether you have children or not, whether you are wealthy or not, you can save time and a great deal of money by working together in mediation. The alternative, with lawyers representing each of you, and arguing your case with each other and in court is much more complex and takes much longer. Therefore it is many times more expensive, in addition to being emotionally painful and destructive to both of you.
In mediation you make the decisions, the agreements, not the mediator. The mediator provides legal and other information and explanations that help you to have the conversation and the negotiation that you need to have with each other to resolve all these matters. You stay in the drivers seat, instead of letting someone else, the court, make your decisions for you.
Options for the Marriage in Difficulty
When difficulties arise in a marriage, most couples think they can go to counseling or get a divorce. In fact there are other options. For example, you can also create a marital agreement, or obtain a legal separation. Many couples today find these options to be more appropriate for them than divorce. We can discuss all these in mediation and you can choose the course that's best for you, or think of something new. Mediation is a great process for creativity. While not all couples who come to mediation resolve all that they set out to accomplish, most do.

Perhaps you've never heard of divorced couples being proud of how they handled something very difficult, at a difficult time. But it is possible, and there are many. I believe long term satisfaction with your divorce agreement depends on two factors: a deep sense that you have been fair to yourself, and the same deep sense that you have been fair to the other.
Evidence shows that those who mediate their divorce are far more apt to have continued parental and family relationships in the future, than those who argue in court. Thus children benefit greatly when their parents divorce amicably, and the long term relationships with both parents are far more likely to be supported in a friendly process.
Free 30-Minute Telephone Consultation
Contact my office today to schedule your free 30-minute telephone consultation, and find out whether mediation is appropriate for your situation, and to discuss your options. Some people call me individually, and others schedule a time when both spouses or partners can be on the line, a conference call.
Over 20 Years' Experience in Divorce Mediation
In my more than 20 years experience in mediation, I've seen hundreds of divorcing couples be honest, trusting and trustworthy, have meaningful communication, and cooperate fully to come to agreement through mediation, rather than engage in the long, expensive and destructive adversarial process with the court making decisions for you.
Some of my clients have taken the time to write their appreciation. You can read some of their notes here.
