I wanted to be able to provide little tid-bits of information to our patients through our website. However, I realize there is so much information available that yet another article might not be necessary. People tell me they research medical issues on the internet, they read about high blood pressure and cancer in USA Today, and they see information on television we all know Dr. Dave. So---- this will be more like just a few of my thoughts to share with you.
Do you wonder what is happening and what will happen with health care? I do. Without being political, I know this much: we all need to work at maintaining and/or improving the health we already have. My mother would say that if you have your health you are wealthy. Another saying is: you do not miss the water until the well runs dry. So often we take our health for granted rather than
taking care of it.
For the year 2010 I encourage everyone to take charge of their own health. Do what you can to get well or not become more sick. If you are well, do everything you can to stay that way.
With the new government recommendations for screening, many are confused as to whether they really need a complete physical examination, a mammogram, fasting blood work, a PSA, or a colonoscopy. I am not embracing the new recommendations because I feel that everyone deserves this care.
I will be political enough to say that in a local meeting recently a Senator accused me of making money by ordering tests. Someone asked me if I was paid by the drug companies for writing prescriptions. Doctors get paid for their medical expertise and for the work they do. When I send a test to the laboratory, the lab gets paid. When I order a colonoscopy, I do not get paid for that colonoscopy. When I order an MRI, I do not get paid for that MRI. Drug companies most certainly do not pay doctors to write prescriptions.
The truth is that most doctors are just out there doing what is right and good for the patients. We do care about you. We care about your opinions and fears and about you as a person, not just your blood pressure!
I recommend just a few things to start taking better care of your health:
1. Stop putting toxins in your body. I consider the following things to be toxins:
high sugar beverages (sodas and high fructose fruit drinks)
Thank you for taking the time to come to this website and to read this note.
