Club Maya has gone out of business as of October 30th, 2009.
Our small business failure is due to the US economy failing. Oil speculators drove the price of gasoline up in July of 2008. This was the beginning of the end of our business. Customers could no longer afford to spend their money on luxuries like tanning. They had choices between driving to work, feeding their families. Good people lost their jobs. The unemployment rate in the United States doubled from March 2008 to September of 2009 from 4.8 percent to 9.5 percent. Banks were bailed out by the US Government after making questionable loans. People like Bernie Madoff fleeced people for billions of dollars. And the insurance companies continue to pray on the health of american consumers. The whole thing is sickening. Greed. Politicians with the best of intentions cannot wave a magic wand and bring people back into our doors, give them jobs, health insurance, and security.
We were never greedy. We simply wanted to take our money build a business, employ good people and make a decent living towards the american dream. That is gone. To all those people who supported us, we thank you. To our competitors, we wish you only the best and good will towards all. We saw our competition come and go. And we landed in the failed business pile. It happens. We personally lost everything in this deal and we hope you do not feel cheated or slighted by our closing. We tried to be the best. And if the economy had not taken a nosedive, we would not be writing this.
My hope is that everyone gets their American Dream back. Like many we start at zero. There are so many people less fortunate than ourselves. We have our health and our family. For the reset of our lives will never forget the wonderful people that we met here. Those that supported us and those that fought us. Those that were confused, strange and fascinating. We are richer for the experience. We will pray for all of us to move forward. God bless you all.
