Fall fishing is now at it’s finest and will continue to be great through September and October. The summer busy season has tapered off and the rivers are seeing few fishermen. Waters throughout the Gunnison County are low and clear, concentrating the fish and allowing for great surface activity on many days. Blue Winged Olives, Trico, Gray Drake, Mahogany Dun, Midge, and Caddis hatches are happening with regularity while Terrestrials such as Ants, Hoppers and Beetles can also entice some large fish. The Browns are beginning to think about spawning and fishing large streamers throughout the Fall can draw some vicious strikes as they get more aggressive.
Aspen and Cottonwood leaves are turning brilliant yellow, the Fall light is incredible, the fish are happy, and spending a day on the water at this time of year can be a memorable experience.
