EDUCATIONDr. Burroughs graduated with honors from the University of Texas. Hecompleted his medical degree in 1993 at the highly selective Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine) in Maryland on full Air Force scholarship. Histransitional internship concentratedin surgical fields.His ophthalmology residency was in San Antonio, Texas, where he served as a chief resident and as an instructor at the School of Aerospace Medicine. In addition to his ophthalmic training, he received plastic surgery trainingfrom ophthalmic, ENT,and facial plastic surgeons in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids and face. 1999-2004 he practiced in Floridaas Chief of Ophthalmology and an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Eglin, AFB. While in Florida, owing to his extensive oculoplastics experience, he became the military oculoplasticsreferral source for the multi-state region. In 2004, he received an honorable discharge from the USAF, to complete a highly selective 2-year American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic Surgeons fellowship in facial and ophthalmic plastic surgery in Utah. He served as Chief of Oculoplastics and Orbital Surgery at the Salt Lake VA hospital, andas an Adjunct Professor of Ophthalmology for the University of Utah. Dr. Burroughs was heavily recruited by numerous academic centers and his Utah practice enticed him to permanently join, but he returned to his home town of Colorado Springs.
Dr. Burroughs is Board Certified and aFellow of the AmericanSociety ofOphthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Burroughs has been a member of the Christian Medical and Dental Association since 1989. He is a member of several other medical societies to include the El Paso County Medical Society.
Dr. Burroughs is a recognized expert having published and/or presented over 40 papers at both national and international symposia. He has co-authored book chapters on cosmetic oculoplastic surgery, is a plastics section editor for Ocular Surgery News, and a peer reviewer for several surgery journals. Dr. Burroughs is a "doctor's doctor" frequently requested by other physicians and nurses to perform surgery on themselves or their family members. He has over 10 years of Botox experience, and also offers non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments with dermal fillers, chemicalpeels, and Latisse. Dr. Burroughs is often asked to write and review professional publications on topics of eyelid and facial rejuvenation and reconstruction. He is also frequently consulted to repair complications arising from surgery performed around the eyes.
Dr. Burroughs received many decorations during his military tour to include the Aerial Achievement and Meritorious Service medals. He received a full scholarship for medical school and a Taylor Fellowship grant.
