I’m still working on my social skills, so please bear with me. I’m very nervous. Was I supposed to curtsy?

I am Chyona. I am a beautiful 5 or 6 year old dark brindle girl who was for sale at a garage sale. That’s right. My people moved and I got put out with the furniture, books, old clothes… and ME! It was very confusing. I don’t know why I couldn’t go with my family, but I am glad somebody rescued me. I never raced, so no one really knows what my life was like before the garage sale.

I am a total sweetie pie and everyone has just fallen in love with me, but I have some very special needs. After a few incidents at foster homes, we realized that my social skills are pretty bad. My already poor social skills were even more stressed by all the scary changes going on in my life. I get overly excited when I play and can really injure another dog or person. Playing with me is WONDERFUL, but I need you to keep me under control and then all is perfect!!

To be completely honest, I am not sure at all about other dogs. I think maybe I want to meet them, but then I get scared and don’t know what to do. I panic and will growl or snap at them. Sometimes may even bite. I just don’t know what’s going on and think maybe I need to defend myself. I got some very special attention from a dog behaviorist to get a professional assessment of my aggression level. I got all A's and B's with a few cautions. Not a too bad report card, I think.

I was relieved to find out that I am not a lost cause. With the right home environment, and a family who can help me learn my manners and some self control, I will thrive and blossom. It is so important that I have a calm home. I would do best in a home with no other dogs, but I MIGHT be okay with a calm, probably male dog at least my size, BUT that would require you to work a little harder with me. Definitely no children or smaller animals. That would be too much for me and I would get myself in trouble. I need a forever home with people who have had dogs before or are willing to work with a trainer to help me learn some discipline and learn how to follow the rules.

My foster families (all of them!) love me and really want me to succeed. I LOVE people and I LOVE to play! My life has been a bumpy road so far and my social skills have suffered because of it. I want so much to be a good girl and have a family of my own, but it will take lots of love and patience to get me there. Will you be my second chance at a happy life?

If you have any questions please call my foster mom, Pat at 303-478-0517.
