Some cases and situations require legal advice and expertise; other cases do not. These matters are amicably resolved between the parties without the assistance of lawyers. However, those people who are unfamiliar with preparing legal documents might spend frustrating hours attempting to type their paperwork in a form acceptable to the Courts. With the assistance of Help Yourself Document Preparation Center, you will represent yourself in Court and will know that all of the necessary documents have been properly prepared.

Help Yourself Document Preparation Center takes the worry and anxiety out of doing it yourself in situations where no attorney is needed and all the decisions and agreements have been made by the parties themselves. We can also assist one party, representing him or herself, who seeks to file forms to enforce an existing order. For a fee considerably less than what an attorney would charge, you can attain the peace of mind that will come with knowing that all the Court procedures have been followed and that the necessary documents are complete before they are filed or a Court hearing is held. You will act as your own attorney and an experienced paralegal will type your paperwork. Although we will type forms for self-represented parties in contested cases, we are not attorneys and cannot give legal advice, and encourage you to seek legal assistance or representation in those situations.

The Colorado Courts believe in divorce with dignity, and recognize that spouses in a marital relationship are usually the most qualified decision makers with regard to the dissolution of their marriage and related issues. Their philosophy -- and ours -- is that family law matters are best handled in a prompt, non-adversarial and cost effective manner. In cases where children are involved, it has been shown that they will benefit the most from a situation where their parents and caretakers are able to put aside their differences, and make decisions based on the best interests of the children on matters of lifelong importance. We now know that parties who come to an agreement resolving their disputes will enjoy better cooperation, communication and compliance with Court orders in the future.

Help Yourself Document Preparation Center is designed to help non-lawyers prepare their own paperwork. You must have a good grasp of the legal and practical rules and procedures you face in order to represent yourself in Court. You make all decisions and select the necessary legal forms. Our role is to professionally prepare the paperwork and record your decisions on the proper forms. Many legal forms, with basic instructions, are available at the Colorado State Judicial website.

We encourage all of our customers to inform themselves of their legal rights and responsibilities before going into Court. We offer workshops designed to inform you about Court rules, procedures and etiquette; how to state your case; how to prepare yourself and your evidence for a hearing; and how to subpoena witnesses when necessary. These workshops are free for our customers. If you are unsure about any of the legal aspects of your family law case, we also offer workshops taught by a licensed attorney who will answer your basic legal questions for a reasonable fee. Help Yourself Document Preparation Center offers its clients access to self-help books, resources and websites to assist them in making decisions and reaching agreements.
