Mountain Laurel adheres to the teachings of Maria Montessori, a pioneer in progressive education and child psychology. Dr. Montessori believed that education should be an "aid to life."

At Mountain Laurel Montessori, the students' natural love of learning is cultivated. Children are supported in their own process of self-construction by adults who care. We offer love and respect in an environment with endless possibilities of exploration with materials and activities designed to entice and delight.

Mountain Laurel's mission is to provide ideal learning environments for each stage of development from infancy through adolescence. We are one school on two campuses that are uniquely suited for each age group's specific needs. Our Front Royal campus is home to our Toddler Community, two Primary Classes, and two Elementary Classes. Montessori Beginnings, our parent/infant program, also takes place in Front Royal on Friday mornings.

Our Farm School is south of Front Royal in Flint Hill. It's the perfect setting for students 12-15 years (7th-9th grade). The Farm School integrates challenging academics with real-world experiences of farm and community life.

We hope this website is a valuable resource for parents and others interested in education that inspires high achievement along with compassion, integrity, and self-reliance. A Montessori education provides the best opportunity to reach one's greatest potential as a conscientious student, a respectful leader, and a compassionate citizen of the world. Above all we want each child to become a happy adult who contributes to the good of society through work that brings sustaining joy.
