Here is a brief summary of all the Recreational Activities in and around the Park County area. Also have a look at some of the History of Park County, one of the oldest counties in Colorado. Lastly there is a facts page about Park County.
With Fall here the Elk will be pushing down into the Flats of the Park. Be sure to watch for the heards just off of the Highways. Couple of spots to really watch for the heards… Base of Kenosha Pass, Both sides of Red Hill Pass & near CR 35 just outside of Jefferson. There are many other areas they will frequent as well. In the evenings you may also hear the rare late season bugle while sitting out on the deck or out hiking in the hills.
Fall has brought clear blue skies and crisp air punctuated with occasional snows, bugling elk and bighorn sheep butting contests.
Aspen started turning in late August at higher elevations and the golden leaves work their way down to the lower elevations in October. Daylight and elevation set the timing of the color season. Rain, snow, cold and wind affect the intensity of color.
Elk bugling runs from mid-September to Late-October, although some bugles may be heard in late August and Early November.
Bighorn sheep stage their head-butting contests in October and November, so if you are hiking and hear some very loud “Cracks” there could be some Bighorns near by.

In the summer, the aspens provide shade for our state flower, the columbine, and in the fall, Coloradans rejoice when the aspens quaking leaves turn their vibrant shade of gold. The next 2 to 3 weeks will be prime get up into Park County and see for yourself what the areas around Jefferson, Como & Fairplay have to offer in Color and amazing Property selection.
